Attention Please! The Hard Truth About Today's Digital Economy.
Expertise and a great offer alone aren't enough anymore.
I remember sitting in an online business mastermind, feeling my stomach drop as I heard the words:
“Attention seeking is part of the deal.”
As an introvert who thrives in the background—the reliable executor, the behind-the-scenes perfectionist—this felt like a punch to the gut.
But Justin Welsh wasn't sugar-coating it, and looking back now, I'm grateful for that wake-up call.
Here's what I've learned the hard way: expertise and a great offer alone aren't enough anymore.
The Myth That's Costing You Sales
Let's talk about the biggest lie in online business. You've probably heard it: “Just create a great product, know your niche, and solve a specific problem. The rest will follow.”
Sounds nice - except that that's only half the story.
Your brilliant methodology, revolutionary framework, or game-changing approach means nothing if it remains hidden from the world.
I discovered this truth the hard way after spending months perfecting my first digital product. Want to know how many sales I made in the first week? Zero.
Not because the product wasn't good, but because nobody knew it existed.
Think about your own behavior for a moment.
When was the last time you purchased something significant—a course, a coaching program, or a high-ticket service—from someone you'd never heard of?
Someone with zero presence, no social proof, no visible track record?
This is why attention isn't just important—it's the currency of our digital economy.
Your future clients are drowning in choices. Without visibility, you’re just another unknown in a sea of choices.
The Invisible Work Nobody Warns You About
What most people don't realize when they step into the online space is that creating your offer is only 30% of the work.
The other 70%? It's all about distribution and attention.
Beyond just having something valuable to sell, you need to:
Write emails and social posts that actually make people stop scrolling and read
Build an email list (and no, not just collect emails—but actually get people to open and read them)
Show up consistently, whether that's through live streams, YouTube videos, or podcast episodes
Grow a social media following that turns into real customers, not just likes and comments
Your expertise needs a visibility channel.
Whether it's through thought leadership content, engaging community discussions, or strategic partnerships, you need to be where your audience is already looking.
Attention is everything in the online business world. It's what turns your perfect-on-paper offer into actual sales.
Platforms That Do the Heavy Lifting
The good thing is, if you're selling on marketplaces like Amazon, Etsy, Udemy etc., these platforms can drive traffic for you. They've already got the eyeballs—you just need to optimize your listings.
If you're not paying for Meta (formerly Facebook) or Google to do the work with ads, then you need to actively work on getting seen.
But—and this is crucial for my fellow introverts and private personalities—getting attention doesn't mean becoming a dancing monkey on social media.
It means being strategically visible in ways that align with your strengths and respect your boundaries.
Making Peace with the Spotlight
For those of us who prefer working behind the scenes, this shift requires a mindset revolution. I had to reframe “attention-seeking” as “value-sharing.”
When you have solutions that can genuinely help others, staying invisible becomes a disservice.
The most successful digital entrepreneurs I know have cracked this code. They build visibility systems that work while they sleep.
This might mean creating pillar content that continuously attracts their ideal clients, developing strategic partnerships that provide mutual visibility, or building community-driven platforms that generate organic attention.
Moreover, they understand that attention without intention is just noise. Every piece of content, every speaking engagement, every collaboration has a clear path to monetization.
Getting Seen Without Losing Your Mind
Instead of trying to be everywhere, try these:
Jump into Facebook groups where your people hang out and actually help people
On Instagram, LinkedIn, etc., comment on posts from bigger accounts in your niche (real comments, not just memes and emojis)
Team up with other business owners for joint lives or podcast episodes
Speak at online summits (even small ones count!)
Your Next Move
Look at where you're spending your time right now. Are you endlessly tweaking your products and funnels, or are you actively working on getting it in front of people?
Start small but intentionally.
Whether it's consistently sharing insights on one platform, collaborating with peers in your industry, or creating content that showcases your unique perspective—make visibility a non-negotiable part of your business strategy.
The question isn't whether you need attention, but how you'll capture it in a way that feels authentic to you and valuable to your audience.
The digital economy rewards those who understand and adapt to this reality.
Your offer deserves to be seen. But it's up to you to make that happen.
Bringing It Home
Remember when I said I was an introvert who hated attention? Well, I still am.
But I learned to see visibility differently. In fact, I'm taking it to the next level this year—but in a highly leveraged way.
Here's how I'm building momentum:
Visibility through collaborations for audience attraction and brand awareness
Long-form content and community engagement to deepen trust and connection
This engaged audience combined with high-value offers drives monetization
Their results and testimonials naturally lead to more sales and referrals
Which creates even more visibility—and the cycle continues with growing momentum
You'll see me focusing on what really moves the needle: speaking at summits, guesting on podcasts, and showing up consistently in communities.
My Substack newsletter has become the heart of this strategy. It's where I share my deepest insights through both written and audio content. I'm aiming to connect with 5,000+ new subscribers who are on the same journey.
This is my vision for building a sustainable growth engine for Estera Digital

Because if an introvert like me can make peace with being seen, so can you.

I gave up on Facebook ads due to to the high cost of advertising campaigns with disappointing returns. Since learning public speaking, I’ve become more at ease in the limelight and found it to be fun. That has given me more confidence to engage on Substack Notes. 👍
