5 things I'd do differently
If I were to start all over again
I started my online business when I was 42 years old. Since then, I've:
- Changed my mindset 180 degrees
- Networked with aspiring entrepreneurs all over the world
- Helped dozens move the needle in their business
If I had to do it all over again, here are FIVE things I'd do differently.
Thing #1: Don't Get Discouraged by Your Age
At 42, I felt like a dinosaur in a marketplace filled with the youthful energy of many half my age.
Especially looking at those polished reels and high energy social media presences.
What people in their 40s bring is something called LIFE lessons and a depth of experience that deepens our interactions.
A blend of resilience, wisdom, and a time-tested perspective that adds significant value in a business setting.
Remember, it's not only Gary Vee who values maturity; many appreciate the stability and perspective that come with age.
Thing #2: Less is More
Initially, I thought I needed it all, and all at once—a large body of content on all possible platforms, all the automations, polished aesthetics.
I thought this was the answer to “passive income.”
It wasn't.
It only led to massive overwhelm and a scattered focus, therefore never allowing me to hone in on the skills that brought tangible results.
Not anymore. Now, I focus on one North Star at a time.
Thing #3: Don’t Go All In
I believed what everyone around me said: “If you don't go all in, you don't want it bad enough.”
I thought adopting the hustle culture was what I had to do. I thought it would bring me success faster.
It didn't.
Instead, I now dedicate four hours a day to my online business. That's it!
My business exists to help create the life I want. My life does not exist to create the business I want.
There are many other hats I need to wear properly, every day.
So, I learned to:
️- Get into deep workflow and master HYPER focus.
️- Do the things I love and actually enjoy my life.
️- Pay attention to the energy I put behind a decision.
Thing #4: Grow Before You Create
One of my biggest mistakes was delaying audience growth. I shouldn't have.
If I had to do it all over again, I'd first build an audience of people who really get me, rather than simultaneously concentrating on products and monetization.
Know, talk to, and listen to your people—then the rest is a walk in the park.
Showing up as your authentic self won't feel hard on tough days.
I am learning that strong brand & great relationships will outperform anyone and anything every day of the week.
Thing #5: Know What YOU Want
Always remember to know what it is that YOU want. It took me a while to realize the power of this question.
It is what matters the most.
Don't feel the need to listen to what anyone (including friends and family) has to say.
UNLESS they have successfully achieved what you are aiming for, their opinion is nice but absolutely irrelevant to your business.
Don’t pay attention to your competitors. I know it's hard, but it's extremely important.
Knowing what goes on in the industry is different from scrolling down the newsfeed to see what Karen launched this month. It does not matter, trust me.
Stay on your lane! Just focus on YOU and the rest takes care of itself.
TL;DR: 5 things I'd do differently if i were to start all over again:
Don’t get discouraged by age.
No need to go all in.
Grow before you create.
Less is more.
Know what YOU want.
Does this resonate with you ?
